Kelly

Owner

With 17 seasons of coaching experience, Kelly Terwilliger returned to her home state to lead the IUP Field Hockey program on April 6, 2022.

Since taking the reins, the Crimson Hawks' presence has surged not just within the PSAC, but nationally built on a foundation of relentless standard-setting, fearless connection, and Big Dog Energy.

Before IUP, Kelly transformed Colby College in Maine from a perennial underdog into a nationally-ranked program. Under her leadership, Colby posted four straight winning seasons and two consecutive NESCAC tournament quarterfinal appearances.

She also brings extensive Division I experience, having served as:

  • Associate Head Coach at Indiana University (Big Ten)
  • Assistant Coach at Ohio State University
  • Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Ohio University

A four-year starter and scholarship athlete at Ohio State, Terwilliger played every game of her career as a defender (2004–07). She earned All-Big Ten honors, was named the team’s Most Valuable Defender, and helped lead the Buckeyes to a Big Ten Championship and an NCAA Elite 8 appearance in 2006.

She holds a B.S. in Education from Ohio State and two master’s degrees from Ohio University in Coaching Education and Sports Administration.

Kelly was inducted into the East Stroudsburg High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014, where she was a standout three-sport athlete. She comes from a deep-rooted coaching family as her brother, Jimmy, is head football coach at East Stroudsburg University, and her father, Mike, has been a college football coach for over 45 years.

And in true “Big Dog Energy” fashion, Kelly is the proud owner of two Bernese Mountain Dogs: Birdie and Bear. Her love for big dogs mirrors her coaching philosophy: bold presence, loyal commitment, and the ability to move with power and purpose. That same energy shows up in every player she coaches.
